Caring for Your Extensions
Beautiful Extensions Start With the Right Care
Your extensions are an investment in your hair, your confidence, and your everyday look. With the right routine, you can keep your extensions looking smooth, healthy, and beautifully blended from appointment to appointment.
A little extra care goes a long way. Follow these simple guidelines to protect your extensions, maintain their softness and shine, and help them last as beautifully as they should.
Your Extension Care Routine
Brush With Care
Always detangle your hair gently, starting from the ends and working your way upward. Use an extension-friendly brush and support the hair near the attachment area while brushing to avoid unnecessary tension.
Brush your hair regularly, especially before washing and before bed, to help prevent tangling and matting.
Wash Gently
Keep your scalp and extensions clean, but avoid over-washing. Use professional, extension-safe products recommended by your stylist and focus shampoo primarily on your scalp.
When conditioning, apply conditioner from the mid-lengths through the ends while avoiding the attachment area unless your stylist recommends otherwise.
Dry Completely
Never go to bed with wet or damp extensions. Excess moisture can contribute to tangling and matting, especially around the attachment areas.
Gently squeeze out excess water with a soft towel and carefully dry your extensions, paying close attention to the roots and attachment points.
Sleep With Your Hair Protected
Before bed, gently brush through your hair and secure it in a loose braid or low ponytail. Sleeping with your hair controlled helps minimize friction, tangling, and unnecessary stress on your extensions.
A silk or satin pillowcase can also help reduce friction while you sleep.
Be Mindful With Heat
Your extensions can be styled, but excessive heat can affect the condition and longevity of the hair.
Always use a heat protectant before using hot tools, keep the temperature at a reasonable setting, and avoid applying direct heat to the attachment areas.
Give Your Extensions the Right Products
Not every hair product is extension-friendly. Avoid products with ingredients that may compromise your extension method or cause excess buildup around the attachment area.
When in doubt, ask your Elvae stylist which products are best for your specific extensions and hair type.
Maintenance Matters
Beautiful extensions require professional maintenance, not just at-home care.
Stay on your recommended maintenance schedule so your stylist can check the condition of your natural hair and extensions, address any tangling or tension, and keep your extensions looking seamless.
Your maintenance schedule may vary depending on your extension method, natural hair, lifestyle, and how quickly your hair grows.
A Little Extra Care Goes a Long Way
Your extensions should make your life easier—not harder. With the right habits and professional guidance, you can enjoy beautiful length, fullness, and movement while keeping your natural hair and extensions in their best condition.
